project ACIaction NWO ENW-M1 Project work Estimating ACI from satellites The aim is to derive robust ACI estimates from satellites by disentangling multiple confounding processes that obscure aerosol–cloud causality, with a particular focus on the Twomey effect. Climate modeling Using perturbed parameter ensembles (PPEs) to identify sources of aerosol radiative forcing uncertainty in climate models, and combining observations to constrain this uncertainty and detect potential model deficiencies to guide further development. Process understanding of ACI Exploring physical mechanisms governing aerosol–cloud interactions at the process level, e.g., entrainment, updraft dynamics, water competition among aerosols and dispersion effect, etc. Data assimulition Assimilating SPEXone/PACE aerosol measurements into ECHAM-HAM and ICON-HAM models to improve estimates of aerosol emissions and, consequently, aerosol radiative forcing.
